Video – a Vuelta rest day ride with Chris Froome

Ex pro Daniel Lloyd goes for spin with Team Sky star

A rest day in a Grand Tour doesn’t mean the riders get to spend all day sleeping in the team hotel, or lounging by the pool – among other things, there’s a recovery ride to be done to keep the muscles ticking over between the two stages either side, and for some, there will also be media obligations to fulfil.

Here, Chris Froome – currently third overall in the Vuelta – performs both as GCN’s Daniel Lloyd tags along with him and the rest of Team Sky yesterday.

Topics covered include Lloyd asking Froome how easy it was to refocus on a new goal after crashing out early during the Tour, as well as for his thoughts on the team supporting him during the Vuelta.

Meanwhile Froome outlines the unique characteristics of the Vuelta that he believes make it a special race, and also why – unlike his team mates – he happens to be riding a time trial bike on the rest day recovery ride.

Racing resumes today with Stage 17 from Ortigueira to La Coruna. Froome currently lies 1 minute 39 seconds off the race lead, held by Alberto Contador - and 3 seconds behind second-placed Alejandro Valverde.
