Second arrest made by police investigating Adam Jones hit-and-run death

Police investigating the death of teenage cyclist Adam Jones have arrested a second man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after raiding three separate addresses in Tipton and West Bromwich.

Adam, aged 15, was killed on the evening of Thursday 26 March when he was hit by a Volskwagen Bora car while crossing the junction of Beacon View Road and Walsall Road in West Bromwich with his bike.

West Midlands Police subsequently released images of the heavily damaged car in a bid to track down the driver, who fled the scene without summoning help, and say they have been “overwhelmed” by the response from the public.

Officers say a 21-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on police bail while their enquiries continue.

It is the second arrest police have made in connection with the case. On April 3, a 25-year-old man was arrested. He was released on police bail pending further investigations.

Commenting on yesterday’s operation, Sergeant Paul Hughes of West Midland Police’s Collision Investigation Unit said: “These warrants have been executed based on information received primarily from members of the public and I would urge anyone with further information to come forward to help our investigation.

“We are closing in on the person responsible for Adam’s death and I would appeal to that person directly to do the right thing and hand himself in.”
