Brazilian cyclist who drafted lorry at 124kph now aiming for 200kph (+ video)

Evandro Portela looking to set new Guinness World Record in 2016

Remember Evandro Portela, the Brazilian cyclist who last year attached a GoPro to the back of lorry as he drafted it then casually removed the camera after reaching a speed of 124kph? Well, he's unveiled plans to go even quicker – 200kph, to be precise, drafting a Subaru car.

Portela and his supporters are currently seeking sponsorship for the ride, scheduled for next February, and taking place on a federal h,ighway, that he hopes will get his name into the Guinness Book of Records.

The motor paced world record is 268kph, set by Fred Rompelberg of the Netherlands in 1995. He was riding behind a dragster at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, so we assume the version of the record Portela is aiming for is the one on public roads and/or behind a car.

He will be riding a bike with a 90-tooth chain ring, while the car involved is a Subaru WRX 400HP. The record attempt, which has the backing of the Paranaense Cycling Federation, will be filmed by a crew specialising in action sports, including filming from a helicopter.

The video of Portela's 124kph ride has now received more than 2 million views on YouTube.
