Kryptonite Anti-Theft Protection Offer now available in the UK

Buy a subscription and Kryptonite will pay out when a bike is stolen and where one of its locks has been broken

Major bike lock firm, Kryptonite, yesterday launched a global version of its Anti-Theft Protection Offer (ATPO). If a registered user’s bike is stolen “because of the malicious or unintended opening or breaking of the Kryptonite lock by force,” Kryptonite will pay them either the cost of the bike or any insurance deductible.

BikeBiz reports that ATPO is available with a number of the firm’s D-locks and chains. However, it is an optional offer for which customers must register and pay a subscription.

As you’d imagine, there are also limits to what they’ll pay out and this depends on the grade of lock being used. The firm will pay out £300 for a bike stolen while secured with a moderate security lock (5/10 rating) up to £3,000 for one secured with one of its 10/10 products.

The cost of ATPO registration ranges from USD 9.99 for a year to USD 29.99 for five years. However, locks rated 7/10 and above come with the first year of coverage free.

For a successful claim, you must report the theft to police within 72 hours; immediately report the theft to your insurance company, if this applies; and notify Kryptonite within seven days. You must also provide an image of the broken lock.

Kryptonite general manager, Nick Watkin, commented:

“Our ATPO has set the standard for service in the industry. We are thrilled to now offer this service globally to both dealers and their customers. Quite simply, the ATPO represents confidence in our products. It’s reassuring for customers to know that when they purchase our products and register for ATPO we’ll reimburse them if their rides are stolen.”

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

I'm very happy with my Series 2 (6/10 rating) and I did register my d-lock with them. However, having read previously about the difficulties some claimants experienced, I'd not set too much store by this 'protection'.

If you buy the marginally stronger Series 4 (8/10 rating, costs £30) then $10 for 2 years might be worth considering if you regularly park your bike in a high risk area.

It'd be worth your while to by another and cut it in half then take a picture of that

What happens if your bike is stolen and the broken lock disappears too?

Providing a picture of your broken lock would be rather difficult!
