Video: Chris Froome says medal at Rio would be "incredible"

Tour de France champion looks ahead to Olympic road race and time trial

Chris Froome says it would be "incredible" to win an Olympic medal in Rio as he looks ahead to Saturday's road race and next Wednesday's time trial.

Speaking to British Cycling in a video interview, the Tour de France champion described the road race, which has cobbled sections and tough climbs, as "a gamble" in which "so many different scenarios" could play out.

In 2012, a week and a half after finishing second to Sky team mate Sir Bradley Wiggins at the Tour de France, Froome won time trial bronze in London and says the winner of that event in Rio is likely to be the rider who has recovered best from the Tour.

Froome and his team mates in the road race - Sky colleagues Geraint Thomas and Ian Stannard, plus Orica-BikeExchange's Adam Yates and Dimension Data's Steve Cummings - have been out training in Rio, with British Cycling posting this video to Twitter.

The riders will be racing on bikes from the same brands that supply their trade teams, although Froome also filmed himself and Thomas taking a ride around the Olympic Village on Bromptons.

Back to that training ride, it doesn't look like it was all hard work - but those 'recovery' drinks look interesting.

Yeah right!

Hope in hell Team Sky will let them eat or drink any of the local produce. They'll have their own hyper-purified meteorite crystal water for sure.
