Video: Crashes galore at Cyclo-cross World Championships

Which is more treacherous, mud or ice?

If you saw even just a few brief moments of the 2017 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships, chances are you’ll have seen at least one rider fall. This video - by a 13-year-old and obviously rather less official than it purports to be – gathers together all the spills into one 3m39s package.

This year’s championships took place in Bieles, Luxembourg – and the icy course didn’t get any easier when parts were worn away to the rather more familiar mud.

The early footage features plenty of the GB riders who finished first, second and third in the junior race. After his win, Tom Pidcock acknowledge the impact of the conditions, saying: “I just made sure I didn’t crash. Just stayed upright and let the legs do the work.”

The men’s elite race was won by Wout Van Aert, while the women’s was won by another Belgian, Sanne Cant.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

The awful music was better than the commentary on the coverage I saw.

It was a lot of:

"She looking down, she may have a problem with the front wheel."

Followed by:

"She's looking down at the wheel again."

Followed again and again until the race finished.

What I can't understand is where all these videos get their crap euro dance sound tracks from. Is there a "Annoying dance music for Cycle videos" album I'm missing on itunes..

Quite right, WOLFIE....imagine this infantile racket chirping away during soccer, or cricket, tennis, or boxing.....frankly I'd rather hear the available ambient (oops!) sounds, like  encouragement from spectators, gears clicking,  warning shouts, clattering velo's, bones breaking, terrified shrieks, foul language.....you get the picture.

This.  Is. Benelux.

it's how they roll. I was up Ventoux one year, they set up a big soundsystem just up past Chalet Reynard pumping it out, and I will never, ever forget the sight of this guy riding up towards it. He was in very tight lycra,  top-range bike, enormously, enormously fat, and he was just bouncing left and right to it as he steamed up the climb.   It was extraordinary

Then there is the Tour of Flanders. I've attached a photo of the entertainment in a bar at the top of the Kwaremont, but unfortunately I didn't get a picture of the scenes at the beer tent by the finish line. Dear lord, I have never seen or heard anything like it ...

it's everywhere around there. They love it. given enough Jupiler beer and frites mit mayo, so will you. It's irresistable (as in "meets immovable object" ....)
