Police seek cyclist after 72 year old pedestrian dies

Cyclist stopped at the scene, but police were not informed for nearly a month

Detectives are searching for a cyclist as they investigate a pedestrian death in Shepherd's Bush.

At around 11am on 30 December 2016, the cyclist, described as a black male, was in a collision with a 72 year old man in Frithville Gardens, London W12.

The man was taken to hospital by ambulance where he died two weeks later, at which point the incident was reported to police.
As it had not been reported earlier, the cyclist, who did stop at the scene, had not been identified.

Detectives are appealing for him to come forward, and assist with the investigation.

Police say they would like to reassure the individual that at this stage, all they wish to do is speak with them and establish the circumstances that led to the collision.

Given the time of day there would have been a number of people in the vicinity and detectives are also appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Merton Traffic Garage on 0208 543 5157 or via Twitter @MetCC

Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Ooh get the pitchforks at the ready he was probably a motorist in disguise.......

Sarcasm aside it's not good to hear of someone losing their life because of the carelessness of another whether he be a cyclist or not.

Apologies- I thought I'd read that the pedestrian was struck on the pavement- my mistake. People weaving through pedestrians at speed on bikes is a problem round here. I had a guy ride into me on the pavement when I was walking with my child a few months ago, he didn't even see her or apologise

Pedestrians stepping into the road right in front of cyclists round here though is probably a bigger problem!

I'm 2 streets from here. It's not uncommon to have to jump out of the way as some twat barrels along the busy pavement on a bike. Someone getting hurt was a matter of time but this is very sad. However the types that ride on the pavement here are not what many on road.cc would acknowledge as a cyclist, they are just gangsta types, of all colours, who happen to be on a bicycle. Bicycle is also preferred transport for street dealers here.

IMHO there are times when you can cycle on a pavement, but if you're moving fast enough to not be able to avoid a collision you might as well be driving on a pavement if these are the consequences.
