Video: Liverpool bus driver filmed putting cyclist in headlock

Incident happened outside University of Liverpool halls of residence in Mossley Hill

Footage has emerged online of a bus driver in Liverpool wrestling with a cyclist and putting him in a headlock.

The video, posted to YouTube, was filmed from a window in the University of Liverpool’s Carnatic Halls complex in the Mossley Hill area of the city.

The footage was reportedly originally posted to YouTube in February, but received attention this week after being posted to student website The Tab.

The driver of the number 699 Arriva bus can be heard to ask the cyclist, “do you want me to let go?” several times.

Struggling to get free after the driver put him in a headlock, the cyclist shouts, “Let go, I said let go,” to which the reply comes, “Are you going to pack it in?”

The pair then get to their feet, with the driver getting back in his bus and the cyclist retrieving his bike before pedalling off.

According to the Mirror, a spokesman for Arriva has said that the company’s depot is aware of the incident, and that the driver claimed the cyclist had thrown his bike at the vehicle.

what on earth is happening in this clip - looks like some sort of pissed up homo

of course, if he tried it on a younger cyclist who managed to overpower him, the rider would be in the dock by now

i literally got off the road the other night and just cycled along the pavement when a massive double decker came towards me on a narrow road with cars parked, fuck that

What sort of aggressive animal do you have to be to stop a bus (presumably with passengers on board), get out and wrestle a member of the public to the ground?

Regardless of provocation, I suspect that he is not someone that should be allowed to drive a bus.

I think about 90% of bus drivers shouldn't be allowed to drive a bus. They are the worst drivers out there... professionals my arse.

Arriva's response seems par for the course for bus companies too. They might as well say he was asking for it.

Yeah, taxi drivers are derfinitely the worst.  At least a bus is bigger and wider and they have less room.  The number of times taxis pass me too close is massively higher than buses

Absolutely agreed, and also they have to deal with a lot more people which is not an easy thing. Also, they tend to be less verbally abusive towards cyclists, although I have an experience of it happening by a supposed bus driver claiming to be a Pinarello rider, who had to emphasize that his bike was better than mine 4 the guy should have joined a theatre to have the violins in his background for dramatic effect....

Not in my experience. Had far worse passes, aggression and plain dangerous situations from buses than taxis over the years. Anecdotal but hey ho.
