Video: Mike Cotty rides Sa Calobra with Fränk Schleck

50,000 riders have clocked times for the climb on Strava

In the latest video from the Col Collective, Mike Cotty scales Majorca’s Sa Calobra with Frank Schleck. Having ridden the climb any number of times on training camps, the Luxembourger describes how he’s tackled it in the past and gives a few climbing tips.

Just shy of 10km in length and with an average of 7.1%, Sa Calobra isn’t enormous but nevertheless draws huge numbers of riders thanks to its southerly location and spectacular scenery.

Due to the popularity of the road in peak season, when it can get very busy with tourist coaches and cars, the Col Collective recommend keeping an eye on the forecast and heading there in December or January.

Schleck, in particular, seems to take pleasure in the views offered while riding the 26 hairpin bends. “If you were riding in a group, you would see the guys below – so the ones you dropped. You want to see the guys you dropped.”

And after the climb… the descent

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.
