UCI president Pat McQuaid has responded to Floyd Landis’ accusations that the Irishman had protected top riders from doping charges, branding him a “liar” reports the Irish Independent.
Landis made the incendiary claims on German TV channel ARD on Sunday night, claiming that McQuaid and his predecessor Hein Verbruggen had covered up positive doping tests among star riders in a bid to protect the sport.
McQuaid told the Irish Independent that he is considering legal action against Landis. He said: "It's very easy for Floyd Landis to make statements like that with no proof. Also, the journalist who interviewed him should have asked him for proof.
"He has already proven to be a liar and continues to be a liar. There is no truth in it, absolutely no truth in it."
McQuaid said that it would be impossible for him to protect riders as the doping test result documents that he saw were exactly the same as those seen by the World Anti Doping Authority.
"All you have to do is look at the amount of big names that have been found positive over the years to show that I don't protect anybody and the UCI doesn't protect anybody," McQuaid told the newspaper.
He said: "Landis won the Tour and we went after him, Rasmussen was a Tour leader and we went after him, and now Contador. Landis talks about clenbuterol being used. We've gone after Contador with only 50 pictograms of clenbuterol in his system. This again proves that Landis' statement is complete fabrication."

"Flandis is at it again !Crosses the line a failure and has a few drinks and on the friday the peleton lets him go up the road so he arrives first and the public thinks he has produced a result ! Well after Paris we knew what the result was !
Taken a few years and a lot of money from people and Now he has changed his tune. Someone told him how to get on a new "gravy train", yes it's a new way to make money and this time he might succeed. US gov. gives a reward to those who blow the whistle and if you sling enough mud some will stick.
Flandis is chucking mud and using the scatter gun approach and there are those who want to fulfill their own agenda so he is getting a little help along the way.
Ridden with this non enity and Tamilton on many occasions, also met hein and the irishman and none of them would be able to lie straight in bed and i would certainly not think of turning my back on any of them.
Sponsors must be heartly sick of seeing this saga drag on and the public at large also.
REMEDY , 4years disqualification with reduction if Suppliers and team mates(after sentences imposed) given up and 2 years must be with ankle bracelet in the home, alternatively 2 years in general population jail not a country club setting. During the whole period total ban on working in any Sports orientated work environment, be it profi or amateur.Found to have breached these conditions then automatic additional 50% increase in the suspension.
Blogged as parrabuddy asking for this stronger action for some time and it seems that WADA & UCI may be starting to realise this is the way to go with "Sporting Fraud /Dopers" !
MORE of you supporting my views will ultimately sway the powers in WADA / UCI to get off the fence !

One good thing I can say about the UCI is that they don't appear to be quite as blatantly corrupt as FIFA.
Landis and the UCI have both been shown to be liars. The only difference is that Landis eventually 'fessed-up' to it, whereas the UCI persist in protesting their innocence on all counts. If those that run the UCI are not indeed liars then are at the very least incompetent and not fit for the roles to which they have been appointed.
