London College of Fashion MA graduate makes leather bike panniers inspired by saddlery

Trained horse tackle maker branches out into fashion bags including some for her bike

Christina Hamilton is one of the recent arts and fashion graduates currently showing their work from the academic year but hers is unusual for taking inspiration from working as a saddler; someone who makes all the leather tackle - and saddles - for horses.

Christina's theory is that if cars in the city are being being replaced by a resurgence of interest in bicycles for transport, then they might need fine quality luggage for their modern equivalent of the horse.

"Much as the traveller of the past needed a good saddle, today's commuter needs to transport their belonging but then be able to walk into the boardroom in style with possessions that reflect their status," says Christina who studied at the London School of Fashion.

No reassuringly expensive prices yet, obviously, but hopefully Brooks the bicycle saddle maker's Human Resources department is looking at their recruitment budget even as you read this.

Thanks to CycleEXIF for the tip

I looks very high quality, I look forward to the 'for men' range, this stuff is clearly for girls.

Could not agree more. When I rock up to a board meeting on my Pashley , I want accessories that not only showcase my disposable income and alpha male status but get people thinking "WTF? Did that guy come here by pony?"

I say "yay"! (To the bags, not the rod brakes on the bike.)
