Brakeless fixed gear criterium racing. Five words to put the fear of God into most people, but not the chaps at Tokyo Fixed Gear, who have teamed up with burrito experts Chipotle to bring an afternoon of racing to London's Hillingdon circuit. And entries are open now!
Tokyo Fixed have been working closely with David Trimble, organiser of the legendary Red Hook Crit, to finalise the format for the racing on Sunday 6 May. They've been careful not to clash with other events worldwide in the hope that they'll attract the strongest field from across the globe; entries are free for overseas riders and there's already some on the start list.
The roster from the final will be decided from two heats of 30 riders, with the fastest 15 from each heat moving forward to contest the main event. The prizes include £300 in cash, 52 Chipotle Burritos, guaranteed entry to the next Red Hook Crit, clothing from Morvelo & Rapha, frames from All City & Tokyo Fixed, Wheels from Halo, goodies from Restrap & Victoire Hubs, Locks from Hiplok, custom bags from Il Soigneur and more.
There should be a good festival atmosphere on the the day, with headline sponsors Chipotle serving up the food and plenty of other bike brands on the scene too. We'll be hanging out there too and hopefully sending a fearless rider to contest one of the heats. Entry to the crit costs £20; if you're interested just head to the event page on RiderHQ and get yourself signed up.
The event's also looking for volunteers to help on the day to help set up the event and marshall footpaths. You'll be richly rewarded with burritos for your trouble. If you can help, just email info [at] tokyofixedgear.com and let them know.

Sounds like a laugh.
If there are no crashes, I'll do 50 fixed laps the day after.
