Special gold Shimano shoes for the Olympics

R315 and new R320 shoes with gold details and national flags given to select riders in the London 2012 Games

Shimano have announced a limited run of special edition shoes to celebrate the Olympic Games.

For select riders sponsored by Shimano, the current top-end R315 (which we have reviewed) has been given a special finish to celebrate their home nation. A not-so-subtle gold finish graces the shoes along with their country flag and name on the middle Velcro strap.

Look out for Matt Goss, Bernhard Eissel, Ryder Hesjedal, Marianne Vos, Michael Rogers, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Sven Nijs and a handful of other lucky riders in the race tomorrow, and see if you can spot their new shoes.

Also worth keeping your eyes peeled for is the first sighting of Shimano's replacement for the R315, the new R320, which will be worn by few riders.

Loads of cyclists will be wearing Shimano's Olympic shoes. All this lot, in fact:

Surely they shouldn't wear gold if they haven't earned it?
