Tour Tech 2013: Garmin-Sharp’s special edition Cervélos

Limited edition paint finishes on team R5 and S5 bikes commemorate 100th edition of Le Tour

Team Garmin-Sharp will be racing the Tour de France on Cervélos in special edition finishes to mark the 100th edition of the race. We featured a picture of the S5 in this new design in Tech Round-up a couple of weeks ago, now we've seen the bikes in the flesh.

If you want to look at Garmin's team bikes in more detail check out our mighty Tour Tech 2013 - Garmin Cervelo gallery.

Up top is the R5 that we spotted Ireland’s Dan Martin riding on a recce in Corsica earlier in the week.

Like the S5 the bike comes with ‘100é’ on the top tube and, up by the head tube junction, an argyled-up silhouette of France with ‘100’ printed in it. Most of the other graphics are in a blue argyle design and the same goes for the inner section of each fork leg.

Britain’s David Millar was on this S5s in similar livery – the S5 being Cervelo’s aero road bike while the R5 has been designed with light weight more in mind.

Of course, there’s a marketing angle… Cervelo, like a number of other manufacturers are fond of bringing out limited edition paint jobs, well you would. The S5 Team LE in this 100th edition Tour de France finish is available at retailers now, although only 150 will be produced worldwide. We don’t have a price but you can be sure it won’t be cheap or even close to cheap. Cervélo haven’t mentioned anything about the S5 version being available commercially, but we’d be surprised if it wasn’t at some stage.

Aren't they just beautiful?!

@Ghedebrav: the red is part of the Cervelo red/black colour scheme

Pleasant enough design, but the colours are surprisingly ugly. What's with the reddish blotches on the stem and the saddle?
