Cyclist killed while riding home from mum's birthday party

He was just 10 minutes away from the house he shared with his partner and 8 month old son...

A young father was killed by a motorist while cycling home after visiting his mum for her birthday.

Travis Frost, 20, was just 10 minutes from the home he shared with his partner and 8-month old baby, Archie, when he was hit by a car.

He had been cycling along Dearne Valley Parkway, in Barnsley, when he was hit by a black BMW X5 travelling in the same direction.

Yorkshire Live reports that two people were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

His girlfriend, Abbie Pacey, 19, paid tribute to her 'funny' and 'cheeky' partner who 'she did everything with'.

She said: "I had known Travis for almost two years but it felt like forever. It was love at first sight with him, we both felt an immediate connection, he was shy at first but not for very long.

"He always made me laugh, he was so funny, no one would ever believe it.

"Shortly after we met, we found out we were having our little Archie but it didn't scare us. I already knew Travis was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

"We did almost everything together, we had our favourite things to do and favourite places to go.

"We loved going out clubbing and we were at the age that it was all we wanted to do. But as soon as we found out I was pregnant we started preparing for our future.

"I don't think I could pick one thing about Travis that I favoured over the rest. I just fell even more in love with the fact that he massively stepped up and became the best daddy and the best partner for me and Archie.

"Travis filled my heart with love and happiness. And yes he is gone but I have the best parts of Travis rolled into Archie. His cheekiness, his boisterous attitude and his eyes.

"Travis' eyes were the most gorgeous I'd ever looked into and now I can look into our sons eyes and see both of them. Their big beautiful blue eyes."

She said that Travis had spent most of February 23 with his mum for her birthday and had been on his way home.

The driver of the BMW, a 30-year-old man from Barnsley, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, being unfit through drink or drugs, being over the prescribed limit and driving with no insurance.

A 30-year-old woman, also from Barnsley, who was a passenger in the car was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Both have since been released under investigation.

Abbie continued: "I was so worried and couldn't stop ringing him. I was up all night until the police came to inform me about the tragic event.

"He was 10 minutes away from home and he was on his way home to me and our boy."

So far a Go Fund Me page set up for his funeral and for Archie's future has raised over £1,000 for them.

Abbie added: "The thing I’ll miss the most is watching his bond with our son grow more and more each day.

"Being able to make more family memories.

"I would like to thank everyone who donated to help create a brilliant future with Archie and helping out with his funeral. It means so much to me and Travis’ family."

My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Travis Frost.

I am incredibly saddened by this story.

So sad and needless.

As both have been arrested for dangerous driving I'm guessing the occupants are blaming each other.

Or they werent willing to say who was behind the wheel at the time -- So both of them will get prosecuted unless one owns up or throws the other under the bus.

It may be that neither is prosecuted if this case is anything to go by:

Its always a game of roulette. Sometimes you'll get a police officer that wants to do their duty and the other times you get the janitor that is going around responding to reports while they clean the premises.

Some forces are always more proactive and deal with a lot more cases where as others do not.

Some folks are tired of being on the force but a job is a job in these hard times so they stick with it to pay the bills while putting in the least amount of effort -- there are people like this in every job not just the police force.

Sometimes it takes multiple complaints and report submissions before someone picks it up a deals with it appropriately. That shouldnt stop you from ever submitting a report though. Your report just has to find that one good soul that wants to do their job.

But the legal question is whether a prosecution is possible for a motoring offence where the identity of the driver is in dispute.

I thought that for a while. Kept reporting to Cambridge Police. "No video evidence, can't do anything" when someone punishment passed & threatend to kill myself & 11yo son, I got a camera. They failed to investigate or even view the video evidence. I complained to Professional Standards. Complaints upheld "clear grounds to take disciplinary action".....but they refused to do so. "Submission system not fit for purpose". So they fixed it......by refusing to provide feedback, so it was no longer possible to make a Professional Standards complaint. 15 complaints, the only one deemd worthy of action was the only one where a car driver was put at risk. I was not even mentioned in court, despite the driver driving straight at me to overtake a learner driver at a junction.  At some point you have to accept that some Police forces do not give a sh*t about the safety of vulnerable road users, and will not, no matter how hard we try.

So sorry I did just post something about poor police prosecutions, but now is not the time. Will donate something to this fund. Shocking and sad and utterly horrible. I weep for that family xxx

In the link you've given, of the delibrate act of hit n run collision, in Nottingham, November 2014...
It is utterly scandalous that cops did NOT treat it as ATTEMPTED MURDER, and worse, that they found it that DIFFICULT to confirm the culprit behind the wheel when all they needed to know if it was male or female.
>And that they easily could have established who it was by:
1. Checking out their alibis
2. Checking mobile phone data of their movements
3. Locating eye witnesses, whose cars were captured on victim's cameras, who may have spotted the fleeing suspect
4. Tracked cctv movement of the culprit's car, b4 n after the collision, and potentially revealing the driver
>Having failed all these leads, all within their power n resources, makes you wonder if they willfully withheld it from the public and the press, perhaps because the culprit had some connections with cops.
