Green Oil’s Eco Grease is a medium weight, general-purpose lube perfect for summer applications on areas such as cantilever bosses, derailleur hanger and pedal threads. Bikes in continually hard service (especially those with unsealed bearings and sans guards) will probably benefit from something stiffer, although a regime of wet weather riding coupled with repeated washing has to date, made little impression upon the blend.
The long, narrow spout allows the lube – with a texture resembling apple puree – to be channelled precisely, keeping mess to a minimum, just as well because it’s very fluid at room temperature and ideal for drizzling into sprung pedal mechanisms, stem bolts, rack mounts, crank taper bolts or impromptu cleat maintenance without demanding their complete disassembly. A crankset transplant presented the ideal opportunity to give the entire bike’s little fixtures and fittings a light application, paying particular attention to mudguard and rack mounting points.
Not only are the contents harmless to organic life but the packaging can also be recycled. Despite the justly strong environmental ethos, Green Oil aren’t without a sense of humour suggesting that use as a hair product will result in a very greasy 70’s look but the labelling warns against human consumption so be vigilant around storage if you have small children.
Convenient size and do-all medium viscosity facilitates speedy bike builds and/or re-greasing of bottom bracket threads, hubs and headsets, yet its small enough to slip into a jersey pocket for curing those unexpected and infuriating mid ride component squeaks. Free from solvents, it also seems very kind to elastomer shocks and seals, which is a real bonus.
In a pinch, Eco grease even doubles as a surprisingly effective internal frame preserve-just leave in a bucket of warm water for five minutes and apply through the seat tube, rotating the fame to distribute evenly.

Despite some initial scepticism, the blend seems highly reistant to the elements and regular washing. It's quick to use and the sensibly long spout minimises both wastage and mess.
