Torq releases alcoholic energy gel in collaboration with Adnams brewery

Now you can drink and ride with Torq's (low alcohol content) beer energy gel

For some cyclists, beer is a reward to look for at the end of a long and gruelling bicycle ride, but now you can drink and ride: Torq has just released the first ever alcoholic energy gel.

Don’t worry, at 1.2% it’s unlikely to get you tipsy - you’d need to down about 20 gels to consume the amount of alcohol you’d get from a half pint of the ale, so you’re unlikely to be wobbling along in your next sportive.

Working with Adnams Southwold brewery to celebrate Halloween and the approaching winter season, Torq has produced a gel called Winter Shandy Gel, using Adnams best-selling Ghost Ship ale.

Aside from the alcohol content, the energy gels still consist of the same 2:1 Maltodextrin:Fructose ingredients as regular Torq gels, so you should get the same energy boost you need when doing a long ride or race.

“Early feedback suggests that this gel tastes very very nice indeed,” says the company on its Facebook page where it unveiled the new gel. We look forward to finding out for ourselves very soon.

The new Winter Shandy Gel is a limited edition product and it’ll be launching at the upcoming Cycle Show at the NEC on 22nd September, and then available in shops. It’s only doing one production run so it’ll be very limited numbers, so best be quick if you want to get your hands on some before it all goes.
