Councillor celebrates removal of cycle lane protection, now says he's "sad" a cyclist is killed there

You're just trolling Rendel.  The councillor was following the will of the people (having worked hard to get it - "...in some way against...") and although we build roads and licence driving any problems are clearly either freak accidents or the one-off actions of rogue drivers and in no way the responsibility of those who facilitated driving and not active travel (or who deprecated enforcement of safety on roads).

Not trolling - just pointing out the hypocrisy of stating that you are happy for protection to be loosened, and then sad that people die when no longer protected. Or alternatively, they are so ignorant that they think magic paint protects cyclists.

Well, depending on the historical period of the area conservation of life and livelihood might not be in keeping.  Particularly those of people who don't own the big houses or drive large carriages.
