"Roads have been closed for months to deliver this..."
Of course, the alternative might be just to close the roads and not build anything...
I'm increasingly noticing that in my city roads are being closed all the time for works. Not infrequently for weeks to months - yet the world doesn't end. Some of this is for road maintenance but a lot is private works - utilities upgrade or new provision, private building development etc.
Since it's usually still possible - if not always hugely convenient - to pass on foot or by bike, perhaps we should just campaign for the trenches, cones and heras-fencing to remain indefinitely?
A new "world's shortest bike lane" winner?
Perhaps you could run a crit around this loop?
Obviously you can't have too much of a good thing..
Well the active travel budget in England is being slashed so maybe places are already rationing? Besides, stuff this groundbreakingly good takes a lot of organising!
If like how we do it in Edinburgh there will be paying for consultants, public consultation, sending back to new consultants after some loud public objection (often encouraged by *all* the opposition councillors), having to replace council staff who've moved on in the meantime, missing budget deadlines etc. So maybe the wonder is there's money left to build - sorry, paint and sign - anything?
