Bath CC First Saturday of the month 'Lansdown Loops' Off-Road Ride
Bath Cycling Club run a regular ‘first Saturday morning of the month’ “Lansdown Loops” off-road ride starting at 9am from Cadence Bike Shop Chelsea Road, Bath BA1 3PP www.cadencebikeshop.com Saturday: 7th January 4th February, 3rd March, 7th April, 5th May, 2nd June The rides are free and are open to non-members and will be led by an experienced qualified Trail Leader. They will follow various routes using the network of bridleway trails north of Bath around Lansdown visiting such nearby villages as Northstoke, Langridge, Tadwick, Hamswell, Beach and Upton Cheyney. The routes include parts of the Cotswold Way, old Roman Roads, sunken lanes and wooded single-track which pass the site of the famous English Civil War battle of Lansdown, a Roman Camp, secluded farms and ancient churches. The routes are hilly (with fantastic views guaranteed, including across the Severn into Wales) but suitable for reasonably fit beginners, as well as more experienced riders. The rides will last about 2 ½ to 3 hours and finish up with a well earned coffee and a chat back at the Chelsea café opposite Cadence bike shop www.thechelseacafe.co.uk If you are planning to bring your bike by car there is limited free on-road parking in Chelsea Road itself and more nearby in Locksbrook Road (BA1 3EL) Parts of the route will be muddy, especially in winter and after heavy rain. Riders will need an off-road capable mountain bike with knobbly tyres and are asked to wear a helmet and bring a full drinks bottle, some food and at least one spare inner tube.
