Video: Look's 795 Light with integrated everything on the Eurobike test track

The most advanced bike you can buy today?

At Eurobike's opening-day demo track, Mat Brett got up close and personal with Look's latest creation, the aerodynamic, integrated-everything 795 Light.

As Mat explains in our vide, the Look 795 bristles with clever touches. Of course all the cables and wires are concealed. and it has Look's very clever ZED2 one-piece carbon fibre crankset, but that's just the beginning.

The stem and frame fit together to smooth airflow and a tiny magnetic cap hides the bolts that hold the bar in the stem. If you're using Shimano's D12 electronic shifting, then the junction box tucks into a concealed cubby hole toward the front of the top tube.

Here's Mat with a tour of the features, and below, Look's own video trip round the bike,

I Love my 695
I love my 695
I love my 695
I'm so ashamed
I love my 695

Hang on - is it Di3 compatible...

nuclear coffee: I'm aware of Navier-Stokes and the open Millennium prize on it. 3

Again though, all else being equal, a long tube slanted against the wind is going to cause more turbulence than one that goes straight into the wind. The slanted tube may have a slightly better co-efficient of drag, but I don't see how it could make up enough in the Cd to make up for the much much larger windage area.

Again, you can see the turbulence in the video from that slanted top tube. It's awful :).

What you don't see is the effect of the bike plus rider. One of the areas of highest pressure is at the saddle area, perhaps lowering the top tube helps relieve that area of high pressure and reduce drag that way? Perhaps the dirty air immediately after the top tube actually reduces the drag around the seat mast?
Without extensive in the wind tunnel there's no way to know.

"drag is basic physics"

 24

It REALLY isn't once you get above high-school level. In fact, possibly the most difficult branch of physics I know of.

Anyway, if everything's integrated, where are the lights?

I thought it was a bit of lippy and a pair of size 10 heels

Welsh Boy: It's basic physics. Drag is a function of frontal cross sectional area by drag co-efficient, all else being equal. If you increase the frontal cross-sectional area several times over by sloping the tube, I'm sceptical that you can recover that in the drag co-efficient with a more aero shaped tube.

Even if you could, you could surely then make the bike more aero again by not sloping the tube and saving that cross-sectional area!

Vendors like sloped tubes because it lets them adjust fit to a wider range of riders by varying the seat post height, which means they can get away with making fewer frame sizes, which saves them costs.

It's a compromised bicycle cause of that top tube, also hideous.

I love the 675 frame set arrangement...I swither between it (with Di2 Ultegra) and a custom steel frame build frequently as my next road bike.

You can actually see the turbulence caused by the highly sloped top-tube in Looks' video between 21 to 25 seconds!

But what you cant see is the comparison with different tube shapes. Maybe, just maybe, Look have thought about this and found that other tube shapes are worse. Come on Paul, give them some credit.

It'd look nice, except for that top tube. Hideous. What's the point of having a such a slanted top tube? Terrible frontal cross-section for aero, surely? That must undo quite a lot of the smaller, marginal improvements in aero elsewhere, if not massively outweigh them.

I thought the Aerolight was the aerodynamic, everything-integrated one, not the Light with it's external brakes in normal places.
