Hunt Bike Wheels has just been founded by Tom Marchment who has spent the last 12 years working with prominent bicycle companies, component brands and distributors in the UK.
Pictures and model-specific details have yet to be released but we do know that Hunt are launching with alloy road wheels, and tubeless-ready is a feature across all models.
“Having tested tubeless extensively on and off road, we know it answers many issues; noticeably improving ride quality, grip and puncture protection,” says Marchment.
Other features include wide rims of 22-24mm and disc brake options. Pricing for the launch range will be between £200 and £450 with weights of 1,395g to 1,650g.
Hunt are using high-quality precision double contact sealed bearings by EZO Japan, and Pillar’s top-of-the-range triple-butted round and aero spokes that feature PSR (Pillar Spoke Reinforce) head reinforcement.
“These spokes cost more but the triple butting provides a great ride and the PSR adds extra durability over standard spokes,” says Marchment.
The first wheel from Hunt is a collaboration with Mason Progressive Cycles, www.MasonCycles.cc the company set up by Dom Mason after 15 years heading up Kinesis UK.
When we spoke to Dom just before Christmas, he told us, “We are... collaborating with a new company to make wheels especially for these bikes because I didn't feel there was anything available that was suitable performance-wise.”
It turns out that company is Hunt.
“Some very special wheels were required for our first bikes, so we worked with the wheel fanatics at Hunt,” said Dom. “They’ve developed the MASON x HUNT Four Season Disc road wheelset. It's absolutely perfect for my four season performance bikes.”
The wheels use asymmetric 6061-T6 heat treated alloy rims that are 23mm wide and 27mm deep. They're tubeless ready.
The hubs are adaptable 9/12/15mm front and 9-135/12-135/12-142mm rear. They're centerlock with six bolt adapters included, and the freehub is 9/10/11-speed compatible. The dual full-contact sealed replaceable cartridge bearings come from EZO Japan.
The spokes are head-reinforced, triple-butted, stainless J-bend Pillar PSR spokes, 24 front and rear, with corrosion-resistant brass nipples.
Tubeless rim tape is fitted and valves are included. Hunt claim a weight of 1,585g and the price is £349.
Hunt are expecting stock of the Mason Four Season Disc wheels in March, with rim brake models following in April.
