Anna Glowinski to speak at Winter Cine Velo Fest in Manchester this weekend

Massive program of cycling movies and more

This Saturday March 21, Manchester's Moston Small Cinema hosts Winter Cine Velo Fest 2015, a day of cycling films, fun, discussion, speakers, music and art powered, say the organisers, by plenty of coffee, cake and beer.

The day centres around a massive line up of films including Bicycle, BOIKMOIND, Breaking Away. The Flying Scotsman, It's All About The Bike, and Pantani.

Other activities include workshops on cycle mechanics, women and cycling; nutrition; a Watt Bike competition; a bad jersey competition and more.

Plus, organiser Laurence Grant has just announced that Anna Glowinski, clothing designer and host of ITV's The Cycle Show will be a speaker at the event. Glowinski will be part of a round-table Question Time and will also deliver a talk about her life in cycling.

Grant said: "People of all cycling levels, styles (and none!) are welcome as too are all ages, men, women, able bodied and disabled. Ironmen and commuters. Trikers and tourers. Whether you prefer lycra or tweed, steel or carbon, soya milk or beer we look forward to your participation in what will be the best way to while away those wet winter weekends and share ideas, banter and tips.

"Whether a roadie, fixie, into audax, MTB, BMX, utility, retro or simply looking for advice on getting (back) into cycling this is a day all about bringing people together."

The most up to date details are on the Winter Cine Velo Fest Facebook page.

John has been writing about bikes and cycling for over 30 years since discovering that people were mug enough to pay him for it rather than expecting him to do an honest day's work.

He was heavily involved in the mountain bike boom of the late 1980s as a racer, team manager and race promoter, and that led to writing for Mountain Biking UK magazine shortly after its inception. He got the gig by phoning up the editor and telling him the magazine was rubbish and he could do better. Rather than telling him to get lost, MBUK editor Tym Manley called John’s bluff and the rest is history.

Since then he has worked on MTB Pro magazine and was editor of Maximum Mountain Bike and Australian Mountain Bike magazines, before switching to the web in 2000 to work for CyclingNews.com. Along with road.cc founder Tony Farrelly, John was on the launch team for BikeRadar.com and subsequently became editor in chief of Future Publishing’s group of cycling magazines and websites, including Cycling Plus, MBUK, What Mountain Bike and Procycling.

John has also written for Cyclist magazine, edited the BikeMagic website and was founding editor of TotalWomensCycling.com before handing over to someone far more representative of the site's main audience.

He joined road.cc in 2013. He lives in Cambridge where the lack of hills is more than made up for by the headwinds.
