Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist died following a rush hour collision with a blue Mazda outside Wigan police headquarters yesterday.
The incident happened shortly after 4.40pm on Thursday 14 May 2015.
A blue Mazda was travelling on Robin Park Road, Wigan when it was involved in a collision with the cyclist.
The cyclist, a 34-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he sadly died.
Robin Park Road was closed for just over five hours but has now been fully re-opened.
Sergeant Mark Thomas of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said:
“This is a truly devastating time for the man’s family and we are supporting them as best we can with the help of specialist officers.
“We are carrying out an investigation to establish the full facts and circumstances surrounding this collision and are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who may be in possession of CCTV or dash cam footage.
“Anyone with information is asked to please contact the Investigation Unit directly on 0161 856 4741 or 4742.”

Exactly right chaps. It's about the language our media uses to imply absence of responsibility. Is this article about people (in which case it's about a driver and a cyclist) or is it about objects (a car and a bicycle).
Show some respect for this man and his family. Totally insensitive & uncalled for comment.
You're missing the point. The article is written in such a way that it appears the car that hit the cyclist may as well have had no driver. The car was travelling along and was then involved in a collision, it says. Why no mention of a driver? That's the part that is dehumanising, not the comment you're complaining about.
As vonhelmet has already pointed out, there is a huge disconnect in how articles like this are written.
The cyclist is always described as whether they were wearing PPE but the driver is never, or very rarely mentioned, only the car, as though it was self autonomous.
Thats why drivers who kill get away with it so often. The car does not drive itself but the perception is that the driver is at its complete mercy, if at all present.
Stop that disconnect, place the responsibility for control of the car firmly in the lap of the driver and then things might just begin to improve.
