Witnesses sought as cyclist pushes another rider into hedge after crash

Dorset Police says man who grabbed victim by throat was riding "gold-coloured Brompton-style bike"...

Police in Dorset are appealing for information following after a cyclist allegedly grabbed another rider by the throat and shoved him into a hedge.

The incident took place at around 9.45am last Friday 29 May at Station Road, West Moors, near Bournemouth following a collision between the two cyclists, say Dorset Police.

One of the riders reportedly grabbed the other, a 31-year-old man from Three Legged Cross, by the throat and pushed him into a hedge.

The man, described as a white male aged in his late 40s and riding “a distinctive gold-coloured Brompton-style bike” then rode off towards Ferndown.

PC Tom Clements, of Verwood police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed either the collision or the assault immediately after to please call me on 101 [quoting incident number 29:126].

“All calls will be treated in strict confidence.”

Alternatively, anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about it can call the charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

I suspect Gold Brompton Man is a commuter and is likely to be back in Station Road at very nearly the same time most days. Possibly normally 1 train earlier and not in such a bad mood 3

No trains in the area but I see why you thought it, the train track has long since gone. Otherwise I agree, a commuter who shouldn't be that hard to recognise especially in an area where there aren't hordes of cycling commuters.

I'm guessing both riders aren't on Strava, or it would pretty easy to find out using the FlyBy feature.

Interesting point but I wonder how many Brompton riders are also on Strava...

And in other news.

Man who happens to ride a bike in his free time is caught by inland revenue for tax evasion. The Daily Mail are pushing for all cyclists to requirement compulsory self assessment as clearly they all are dishonest scum.

Is this really headline news for a cycling website?

Was the bloke on a Brompton style bike a cyclist, or just a person on a bike?

Remember. Cyclists can do no wrong - it's those ordinary people on bikes that give us a bad name!

People are people, whether they're driving an SUV or riding a Brompton.

Mind you, are they sure the guy on the Brompton wasn't *really* a circus bear? 3

Those Brompton riders. Proper nasty pieces of work, the lot of 'em. Once had one hold a knife to my throat in return for my spare tube. More fool him - it was already punctured! (and 700c, but mostly punctured).

We complained when the Daily Mail made news of the cyclist on pavement toddler incident, then this makes the front page of a cycling website?

Youve made quite a few comments about what this site should, or shouldnt report on. Your last post I remember was a huge victim blaming comment on a story where the comments got switched off because of it.

Who is this "we" that you speak of? Surely you can only speak for yourself, or have you appointed yourself 'speaker' for all road.cc visitors?

As for your comment, the DM will ALWAYS wring maximum mileage out of a story that involves any minority group they dislike so complaining about that is an exercise in futility. As for this story being posted here, are you saying rogue behaviour against, and by cyclists should not be reported? So you're all for either censorship or burying your head in the sand?

Ever considered that it might be that by disseminating the story, it also drums up potential witnesses, or someone who might recognise the description of the person?

I'm guessing you haven't so you have to ask yourself, what exactly are you bringing to the table?

My comment was a tongue-in-cheek poke at the irony of the situation. I apologise if I caused any offence.

You should probably get your facts correct before committing so much time writing about me. A quick look through ALL my limited post history in these threads show that I have never a) commented on what the site should report, nor b) blamed victims.

a) Your comment in this thread is exactly that. I wasnt offended, just ... disappointed. Trying to claim its 'tongue in cheek' is trying to get on right side of Poes Law after the fact.

b) The story in particular was this one: http://road.cc/152857 , which you'll note, now has the comments turned off because of it.

I wondered what had happened there. I kept seeing the story and the note saying there were 16 comments and couldn't understand why I couldn't see them.

I put it down to yet another server problem. Hey-Ho! Live and learn. 4
