Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic 2015 starrBMC's Jean-Pierre Drucker wins 2015 Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic
Jean-Pierre Drucker of BMC Racing came off the wheel of Team Sky's Ben Swift to win the third edition of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic in front of Buckingham Palace this afternoon. Swift finished third, with Mike Teunissen of LottoNL-Jumbo second.
The trio were part of an eight-man group that got awy with 35km reamaining of the 200km race from London into the Surrey hills and back.
Also in that group was Teunissen's team mate Sep Vanmarcke, who went on a solo attack in the closing kilometres but was brought back inside the closing couple of kilometres.
The main bunch crossed the line a shade over three minutes behind the leader, with Bora-Argon 18's Phil Bauhaus leading them across.
As the race came over Box Hill, with around 50km remaining, Mark Cavendish's Etixx-Quick Step team brought him to the front, following an attacck from the BMC Racing pair of Rohan Dennis and Philippe Gilbert that reined in the day's break.
But with that new, eigh rider break forming, Cavendish was frustrated, just as he had been in the 2012 Olympics, with BMC Racing's tactics rewarded with Drucker's victory on The Mall.
