Sky likely to move out of National Cycling Centre as British Cycling reviews relationship

Team Sky is expected to leave its offices at the National Cycling Centre after British Cycling launched an official review of the relationship between the two.

The two organisations have shared the Manchester velodrome since Team Sky’s formation in 2009 but British Cycling is revisiting the arrangement as part of its 39-point action plan issued in response to the independent review into the culture of its World Class Performance Programme.

The Daily Mail reports that the new British Cycling chairman Jonathan Browning met with Team Sky boss Sir Dave Brailsford to discuss a number of issues, including the shared premises.

The National Cycling centre is a council-owned building and British Cycling does not have the power to turf Sky out. However, both organisations seem to now accept that there is a need to create more distance between themselves. The blurred relationship between the two was flagged as a potential problem as far back as 2011.

A senior Sky official said the team were looking at various options in an ongoing search for new premises, although a British Cycling spokesman denied claims that Browning had asked Brailsford to make this a priority.
