A man who cycled the height of Mount Everest on a Raleigh chopper bike has entered the Everesting Hall of Fame for his efforts.
David Sims, a 38-year-old from Southport, cycled up Hunters Hill 92 times earlier this month.
He completed the 184 miles 29,029 ft of vertical climbing to top his previous achievement of completing the Tour de France on a chopper in 2015.
He said: “It was tough. I won’t lie. But when I’m on the Chopper, I stop thinking about to-do lists and bills. I just ride like a kid with no care in the world.
“The Chopper bike always gets a great reaction wherever you go. It makes people smile. People remember it from when they were younger.”
Over his lifetime, Dave hopes to raise £25,000 for Help For Heroes through his various cycling challenges.
This challenge, which aimed to raise £1,000, has achieved three quarters of its target.
Dave said: “The tougher the challenge the better. And who would’ve thought that riding a rusty yellow bike could help me raise cash for a brilliant charity like Help the Heroes!”
Dave says that despite a bad case of swollen knees following the event, he is now looking towards next month’s challenge - riding the chopper up Mount Ventoux.

Did he do 184 miles in one day on a chopper? If he did, that's freaking unbelievable. Mind. Blown.
Wow! Every credit Dave. I Everested last year & it was hard enough on my road bike. Can't imagine what it was like on a Chopper! I'm local too & have been over Hunter's Hill a fair few times but on a Chopper? Gotta be a bit mad to Everest but this takes it to a whole new level. I'll be down to the cafe soon to shake your hand
I'm just down the road from Southport, what's the cafe called and where is it? Will have to check it out some day.
Switchback: 129 Cambridge Rd, Southport PR9 9SD
Respect. Toe overlap and crampons are difficult bedfellows.
Unbelievable!
I saw this lad hahaha. I laughed as he flew down while I struggled up, then cursed myself embarrassed as he passed me up and then laughed as he rode down again before I had reached the top realising this sod must be going up and down all day. Now I know what he was up to!
if you want to see him he has a nice cycle cafe in Southport. im there tomoz
Second that - he's a cracking bloke, and his cafe is brilliant. Only been open six months, but already a favourite with local clubs, casual riders and non-riders alike. He does Wattbike challenges, barbecues and all sorts of things in there - highly recommended
