Yet another Edinburgh Festival- this time for cyclists.

Hot on the heels of the close of The Big One, this Friday (26th August) will see the home of all things Festival-y commit some of that enthusiasm to the cycling arena, with the city's first Cycling Festival taking place in the city. 

The Edinburgh Bike Festival event is a collaboration between Edinburgh Leisure and the cycling project Bike Club and is intended to be very much a family orientated day, full of activities and fun for all levels of cyclist. 

With Saughton Park, Stevenson Drive as the venue, the festival will run from 1.30pm to 4.30pm with activities throughout the afternoon such as a bike obstacle course, cyclo-cross race, pump track, skills sessions, police bike tagging and balance bikes for little ones. There's even going to be triathlon tasters and a climbing wall. 

Free information about cycling in the area will also be available from a number of organisations such as Sustrans, The Bike Station and Cycling Scotland. 

Edinburgh Leisure Bike Club Officer Amy Hickman says "I am really excited about this event. Edinburgh's cycling culture has been growing over the years, as reflected in the large number of cycling organisations and projects dedicated to getting people of all ages on their bikes. This is a great opportunity for the people of Edinburgh to see the different types of cycling and find one that suits them. It'll be fun!"

City of Edinburgh Council recently demostrated its committment to supporting cycling with the CEC Active Travel Action Plan, which set a target of 10% of all journeys within the city to be made by bike by 2020. There are also additional programmes in place to encourage the number of recreational cyclists and walkers in Edinburgh. 

Sadly the Dutch Army Cycling Band won't be there to repeat their recent performance at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
