Friday Schwag Grab, Gore Bike Wear Sportive: Everyone's a winner

Everyone that wants a piece of the action will receive one... don't say we ain't givers...

Well it turns out (not that we weren't expecting it to be so) that there's not as many of you up for a proper big adventure as there are wanting to pocket some free stuff. But eight hardy souls are game for for a bit of beautiful mid-Wales scenery and a few lung-bursting hills to boot. So sod it. you can all come. We'll sort out the extra entries one way or another, and it won't be by photocopying the ones we have, honest.

For next week normal service is resumed, with the scent of adventure replaced by a rubbery tang. stay tuned...

Below is the original story:

Something different this week – we're giving away adventure, memories and some great riding with five free entries to Round 1 of the GORE BIKE WEAR™ Sportive Series in Llanwrtyd Wells on 4 July worth £25 each.

Here's a chance to ride your bike in one of the most beautiful parts of Britain and test yourself over a challenging course… and should the mood take you, make a weekend of it too.

There's a choice of two loops of 50 or 90 miles riding through some of the most stunning scenery Wales has to offer and up and over some of its toughest climbs including the legendary Devil's Staircase which featured as an hors category climb in both the Milk Race and the Kellogs Tour of Britain… if you win you'll certainly remember that.

The event village and start/finish is a well appointed camp site on the edge of Llanwrtyd and anyone coming along is invited to make a weekend of it – there's plenty to do by bike including a round of the Merida Bikes MTB Marathon series if you fancy making the weekend a tad dirtier.

Usual Schwag Grab rules apply simply comment below to be in next Friday's draw… Good luck!

road.cc's founder and first editor, nowadays to be found riding a spreadsheet. Tony's journey in cycling media started in 1997 as production editor and then deputy editor of Total Bike, acting editor of Total Mountain Bike and then seven years as editor of Cycling Plus. He launched his first cycling website - the Cycling Plus Forum at the turn of the century. In 2006 he left C+ to head up the launch team for Bike Radar which he edited until 2008, when he co-launched the multi-award winning road.cc - finally handing on the reins in 2021 to Jack Sexty. His favourite ride is his ‘commute’ - which he does most days inc weekends and he’s been cycle-commuting since 1994. His favourite bikes are titanium and have disc brakes, though he'd like to own a carbon bike one day.

I was thinking about the Ruthin Sportive as my induction to sportives.... if I get one of the five entries then my training will have to step up a notch sharpish !

Having done one of the Merida MTB marathons before they introduced the sportive, I quite fancy a bash- and I like my odds this week with 5 places and 4 entries.
