An event in Scunthorpe next month will aim to promote disabled cycling and showcase the council's fleet of specially adapted bikes.
In 2009, a number of bikes that are accessible to people with various disablities, including tandems, hand cycles, wheelchair loaders, go karts and tricycles were purchased, and are available to hire from Pods in Scunthorpe and Baysgarth Leisure Centre in Barton.
The event means more people can try the bikes with the help of instructors, and able-bodied riders are able to join in or spectate.
Councillor Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for customer services, sport, leisure and culture at the council, told This is Scunthorpe: "The adapted cycles have been a huge success with many people wanting to use them. We are now considering adding to the existing fleet of adapted bikes, which will allow more people to enjoy them.
"Cycling is a sport that everyone can get involved in. Come to the event to watch a demonstration of how the bikes work and try out new adapted cycles to see if they work for you.”
The ride will start at 10.30am from Scunthorpe Civic Centre car park on April 14 - riders need to register by April 12.
For more information and to register, contact Paul Kitchen on 07717587359 or Telle Medhurst on 07717587270.
