Yorkshire museum wants pics of you with first bike for Tour de France exhibition

Cusworth Hall near Doncaster gets into spirit ahead of next year's Grand Départ...

Doncaster Museum Service plans to mark the Tour de France’s Grand Départ in Yorkshire next year by holding a cycling exhibition at Cusworth Hall – and it is calling on people to send in pictures of themselves with their first bike.

It is also seeking “an interesting bike, or bicycle related memorabilia,” which you might be willing to loan for the exhibition.

Councillor Bob Johnson, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council’s cabinet member for culture and tourism, commented: "This exhibition will coincide with the world's greatest cycle race and next year is set to be the best yet as The Grand Départ 2014 is in Yorkshire.

"I hope people will take up the invitation to share images of themselves with their first bikes - whether it is a sparkling Raleigh Chopper” – as in the one above – “a rusty old hand-me-down or a state of the art BMX bike."

You can find out more information from Neil McGregor, Museums Officer (Art and Exhibitions) at the Doncaster Museum Service on 01302 734 295, email neil.mcgregor [at], or his colleague Nicola Fox, email [at]

Described on the council’s website as ‘the jewel in Doncaster’s crown,’ Cusworth Hall is a Grade I listed Georgian house set in a landscaped park and overlooks the South Yorkshire town.
