Bath cyclist dies after Saturday night 'hit & run' - Police appeal for witnesses

Avon and Somerset Police have issued a witness appeal following a hit and run incident in Bath last night that resulted in the death of a 19 year old cyclist.

The incident occurred on the Midland Bridge Road at around 9.30pm last night when a car was in collision with a 19 year old male cyclist. The driver of the car failed to stop. The teenage cyclist suffering from serious head injuries was found by a  passer by who called the emergency services. The young man was taken to Bath’s Royal United Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The police are appealing for anyone who was in the Midland Bridge Road area at around 9.30pm last night (Saturday) to come forward with information to help their enquiries to contact Bath CID on the force number 101, quoting reference 2013.11.16.1117.

The Midland Bridge Road is one of the main traffic routes in and out of the centre of Bath connecting the city centre with the south western suburbs an area in which much of the city’s student population live. The road narrows as it crosses the bridge iself and the hazard for cyclists is further increased by waist height metal kerbside barriers running the length of the that leave no means of escape in the event of a collision or potential collision. 

Police have not yet said in which direction the cyclist was travelling when he was hit, on it's southern end the Midland Bridge Road enters a large junction and gyratory system while its northern end leads in to the centre of Bath.
