At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Duck's Smart Earth Mover bike cleaner is a very good all-purpose solution for tackling your grimy bike.

Our one-litre bottle came with Duck's 'unique' trigger spray which turned out to be a lot like a lot of other trigger sprays, in that you press the trigger and it squirts the cleaner.

You can adjust the spray too, from a fine mist to a concentrated jet of filth-removing power.

The cleaner itself is very good. It's safe to use on all the surfaces you can expect to find on your bike. Duck claim it's completely biodegradeable, and the bottles are recycled.

The mixture of 10 active ingredients seems to be just the right combination for easing the muck off your ride. Mud, road spray and brake residue are easily tackled, and Earth Mover is also pretty adept at sprucing up your chain, more so than quite a few other similar products I've tried.

There are 'aluminium brighteners' in the mix which will apparently make all your alloy components look good as new. I can't say I noticed the difference over a standard clean and polish, but there's no doubt that Earth Mover is and effective bike cleaner. So much so that I often didn't need to resort to a separate degreaser for the really mucky bits.

Our one-litre bottle is lasting well. If you get through a lot of cleaner you can buy Earth Mover in five-litre and 25-litre flagons.

Verdict

Good all-round cleaner for your bike fleet.
