At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Summatory's Hermida jersey is made in Italy and designed in Spain and is designed for the warmer weather. It matches the bib shorts we tested recently, and if the orange doesn't do it for you, both are available with blue panels too.

The jersey has been designed in collaboration with World Champion mountain biker Jos Hermida, although there's nothing off-road specific about the design. Indeed, the reflective trim on one of the rear pockets is a whole lot more useful for riding on the road than for hooning through the woods.

The fabric is a nylon (72%) and elastane (28%) mix so it's mega-stretchy. It's a race/performance cut - slim to avoid any fluttering around in the breeze, that high elastane content meaning that it feels close-fitting rather than tight. The sleeves are similarly slender so they'll sit well on the average skinny-armed cyclist, although there's plenty of give to accommodate bigger guns too.

The neck is fairly low as cycling jerseys go. This isn't a jersey for keeping out chilly air; it's more concerned with getting cool air in. You get laser-cut perforations under each arm and along the centre of the back to improve ventilation, for example, and the full-length front zip provides plenty of scope for controlling the internal climate.

The fabric itself is soft on your skin. It's not as airy as some super-light mesh fabrics but it shifts sweat well and dries rapidly to keep you comfortable. I've never found myself feeling uncomfortably damp and clammy in this jersey. It has an SPF (sun protection factor) rating of 50+, by the way. Sumattory reckon it's suitable for riding in temperatures of 15-30C and I'd say that about covers it.

You get the obligatory three pockets in the lower back although they're each a different depth. Radical! The middle one is a generous 23cm, which is useful; store a pump in there and it's unlikely to escape. The right hand pocket comes with an extra zippered compartment for valuables too, the face closest to your body being waterproof. That means you can sling your mobile phone in there without the screen coming out foggy.

After just a few weeks it's hard to tell how the zip will standup to long-term use, but it looks good quality. The puller is large enough to grab easily even when you're moving at speed and it locks down with a healthy click to prevent any unwanted creepage. The silicone print inside the elasticated waistband works well too. There's not a lot of it but it holds the hem in place effectively.

Finally, a word on the sizing. I usually take either a medium or a large, depending on the brand. This one is a large and it's about as small as I'd like to go, so consider going for a size larger than usual.

And finally finally, the price. At £110, this is one of the more expensive short sleeve jerseys out there. The likes of Assos and De Marchi, for example, might have pricier options but this certainly ain't cheap. It's a really good jersey with some cool features but you'd struggle to make out a case for it being top value and so would I.

Verdict

Good performance jersey for the warmer weather, although it's expensive

Tell us what the product is for, and who it's aimed at. What do the manufacturers say about it? How does that compare to your own feelings about it?

It's a race/performance jersey. This is the manufacturer's sales pitch:

"Designed for warm to hot rides, the Stripe Jersey is a product of UCI World Champion Jos Hermida's collaboration with Girona based brand Sumattory.

Some cycling jerseys get you excited, but Sumattory 's Stripe Jersey, through its clever combination of UV protective Italian made fabrics, ergonomic cut and outstanding attention to detail (laser cut areas to enhance airflow are particularly impressive), really gives you something to write home about. That is, if you wanted to write home about it for any reason - maybe you do, who knows?

Rocking a full length zip, with three roomy rear pockets, with a fourth zippered waterproof pocket for valuables, the Stripe Jersey is SPF 50+ resistant, lightweight and highly breathable."

Tell us some more about the technical aspects of the product?

It's a 164g fabric with SPF of 50+

Impressive performance; a very good jersey

Good deep pocket around the back; I'm fed up of losing windproofs and pumps because of too-shallow pockets. Good fabric and close cut.

Nothing; I just think the price is high.

It really looks comfy and personally I like the style. They say the stuff is made in Italy, I'm sick of garments made in Asia.

A friend of mine was in Spain last week and discovered the brand there.

+10 points for touch and quality perception.

Buying a bike that befits a pro, when you are not a pro, is the definition of poor value, not buying cycling apparel that makes your ride more comfortable. 3

I give it three summer months of hard usage, and it'll look like a Lidl £9.79 special offer jersey. That big white panel in the front will just suck up those tiny insects you get by the billion in agricultural areas at this time of year.

WOW, as much as i like the features and colour, to f**k if i'm paying £110, i could get a cheap set of wheels for that

I thought the price of sky's new top £75 was hugely over priced, but this takes the biscuit

WHY is my question??

I know football clubs try and rip people off with their over prices tops and changing them so often, but i feel cycling is now going the same way. No wonder their are so many far eastern companies making "replica" tops for cycling, because they are going to make alot more than they do on football merch
