Garmin Connect smartphone app updated

Garmin overhauls its Connect smartphone app with a new interface and easier access to features and data

Garmin has completely updated its Connect smartphone app, with a new interface that can be personalised and designed to make it easier to find the information, data and features you need.

The updated Garmin Connect app, compatible with iOS and Android smartphones, is claimed to be easier to use with a more concise layout and provides easier access to features like leaderboards, daily snapshots, a calendar and newsfeed. The interface and presented data can be tailored to your requirements, so you can easily view the data you use the most.

“We’re excited to bring a new look and feel to the Garmin Connect Mobile app,” said Andrew Silver, Garmin EMEA Product Manager, Fitness & Wearables. “The new interface and customisation options make it easy for users to focus on their personal wellness goals and milestones, no matter what Garmin device they’re using or where they are on their journey to a healthier and more active lifestyle. With the revamped Garmin Connect Mobile, results have never looked better.”

Garmin has also added more social sharing features to the new app, with an updated Challenges feature allowing users to compete in a weekly challenge against other Garmin Connect users.

The app can be used with any Bluetooth compatible Garmin Edge and allows you to upload data directly to the app, and you can also send courses and workouts to the Edge.

It's available for the iPhone here and Android phones here.

Oh dear. It may be pretty, but it doesn't work - Vivoactive 'not connected' though the watch says it is; all app connections lost and the 'Other Partners' menu item won't open up to re-establish the connections. Another Garmin software 'success'! Why do we bother?

It's good to see that they are spending their cash on developing the app and Connect system... Although they are trying to "win" in a very tough marketplace that is heavily dominated by one or two key companies/systems.

Let's hope this great new look and feel give them the ability to increase their audience and make the experience easier for the user. ...it's certainly more appealing to look at now!

in segments, it doesnt tell you where you place. Shows top 3, details of the segment gradient, dist, number of people who have done it, your time, but not your position.  Its really quite funny how bad they are at designing apps.

Garmin segments are a shambles anyway. Last time I looked, there was no way to flag a person who had driven the segment in a car.

and as you would expect from Garmin, its full of faults.

Still no way to connect to the apple Health app (in settings it tells you to go to... settings!)

Weight now hidden behing multiple menus, and cant now be entered in decimal places, just to the lb. (you type it now with no decimal available, previously you could just knock it up/down on a crolling menu).

Not sure yet but strava not listed in 3rd party app menu, so that connection may have been lost again too.

Maybe they refer to the general iPhone settings page of this particular app?
