Santini’s spring/summer range: the highlights

Santini has been visiting road.cc to show us the latest range and here are the most interesting pieces.

Santini calls around two or three times a year to unveil what's coming next, allowing us to decide what we'd like to review over subsequent weeks and months. We've not had the chance to use any of this clothing yet so we're not telling you about the performance; this is just the kit that caught the road.cc collective eye.

Tono Jersey £79.99

Santini calls this ‘the ultimate climber’s jersey’. It’s slim fitting and made from an extremely lightweight mesh fabric, so we imagine it’ll be suitable for the hottest summer days. The matching shorts (£134.99) have raw cut ends to the legs and a chamois that’s designed for up to seven hours of riding (Santini, like other brands, suggests a ride duration max for its pads).

Tono 2018 Jersey £79.99

The Blue Tono has actually been brought forward from Santini’s 2018 range. It’ll be available from independent bike dealers only from April. It’s about as lightweight as jerseys come and the collar dips low at the front.

It’s a really good looking piece although, like the 2017 Tono, it looks to be suitable only for very high temperatures.

Queen of the Mountains Jersey £84.99

The Queen of the Mountains jersey is made from two different fabrics: a standard weave on the front and sleeves and a micro-mesh material on the sides and back for extra breathability in hot conditions. You get five pockets: the usual three on the back plus an extra one on each side. It’s available in fuschia (shown here), green and white.

Wave Jersey £69.99

This lightweight women’s jersey has waves of different densities in the weave which Santini says makes for better breathability. There’s loads of stretch in this jersey and it’s available in orange and purple options.

The Wave bib shorts (£89.99) are said to have a slight compressive effect and the raw-cut legs have an anti-slip gripper.

Sleek Plus Jersey £99.99

Santini says that this jersey is used by Team Lotto NL-Jumbo, so it’s slim and aero with the front cut much higher than the back to avoid bunching when you’re on the drops. The base and the sleeves have integrated elastic grippers to help keep it in position. The sleeves and back have vertical ventilation channels. You get a zipped valuables pocket around the back as well along with three open topped pockets. 

The Sleek Plus bib shorts (£134.99) feature Santini’s C3 variable thickness pad, that road.cc’s Dave Arthur said strikes the perfect balance between cushioning and a slimline fit.

Mago Bib-shorts £104.99

The Mago shorts are made from ‘Thunderbike Power’ fabric that’s said to offer ‘a graduated compression for optimal fit’, and you get microfibre elastic bands at the ends of the legs. The NAT seatpad has a gel core and is intended to be comfortable for long days in the saddle – up to seven hours, Santini says. There’s also the addition of two mini side pockets that can carry small items like gels and bars.

Photon 3.0 3/4 Jersey £119.99

A three-quarter sleeve jersey, huh? Well, you get speedsuits with three-quarter length sleeves for improved aerodynamics so it’s not that big a leap. The Photon 3.0 3/4 jersey is designed to be super-aero and comes with antibacterial and anti-odour side panels.
