Smart bike bags

Including a new leather Brompton bag from Hill and Ellis

Whether you're after a bag for riding around town or for cycling further afield, there was plenty on offer at last weekend's Berlin Bike Show (Berliner Fahrradschau). Check out these neat designs…

Hill & Ellis

London’s Hill and Ellis has a new range of UK-made bags (main pic) that attach to the rack of a Brompton C frame via Velcro straps. This one, in black leather with tan brown straps, is called the Earl (£215). It also comes with a black shoulder strap.

This brown and mint satchel bike bag is an existing model in the range which attaches to a rack via hidden pannier clips. It takes a 15in laptop and comes with a waterproof cover

This reflective tab is reversible to be more subtle when you're off the bike.

La Bouclee

Okay, it’s not really a bag but La Bouclee has had a leather holder for a wine bottle (€45) on the market for a year. Now it has branched out: you can get one for holding a beer bottle (€25).

Those straps are a nightmare. Nothing smart about them at all. They should have at least made them replicas, with a hidden button behind for fast open and closing. People forget how pants those straps are and why we've moved away from them. The missus wanted a similar bag recently and I had to eBay it a month later because the straps pissed her off.

Maybe.

But life is too short to be in a hurry.

Those beer holders look great but I'm not sure of their effectiveness. I'm not sure how effective any way of transporting a bottle of something fizzy on a bike could be impress you have several hours at destination to let the drink settle
