Chris Froome’s Mont Ventoux run earns Barcelona 10km run invite

He hasn’t been training for that distance – but at least it’s not all uphill

Chris Froome is building quite a reputation as an athlete. Not only did he win this year’s Tour de France, Spanish website AS reports that off the back of his exploits on Mont Ventoux, the organisers of the Cursa dels Nassos 10km run in Barcelona have extended him an invite.

Froome was famously left without a functioning bike following a crash on Bastille Day and so resorted to Shanks’s pony. The unwilling duathlete duly proved himself every bit as elegant off the bike as he is on it.

Many have since paid tribute, including Jenson Button, while earlier in the week Sir Bradley Wiggins tackled a short stretch of The Struggle on foot during the Tour of Britain. Perhaps Froome will invite him along.

The Cursa dels Nassos event is held each year on December 31. Registration opens tomorrow (September 8) with 14,000 places available.

The event is organised by La Sansi which is responsible for running events in more than 20 cities throughout Spain, including Avila. 2008 Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre is patron of that particular event.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.
