Video: Trailer for David Millar Time Trial documentary

To be released in UK cinemas in June

The David Millar documentary Time Trial will reach UK cinema screens on June 29, reports BikeBiz. The film follows Millar through the final races of his career, including the moment of despair when he was left out of the team for what he was hoping would be his final Tour de France.

The film is directed by Finlay Pretsell, an award-winning filmmaker who also represented Scotland a number of times as a cyclist.

Pretsell said of the sport: “People often talk to me about it – who's going to win this race or that, how many miles have I ridden, what's my power output, what bike have I got? All of this detail does not excite me – they are tools, necessary but irrelevant.

“The physical and mental feeling of being on the bike, floating through the air, the meditation, but above all the filth and grit of the race, the strength required of mind and body, that is the fascination.”

Pretsell persuaded race organisers to allow a motorbike-mounted camera in several races that season (2014). He also mounted a camera on Millar’s bike and put a mic on his jersey. In the Guardian, Richard Williams described the end result as “a different, more intimate and in the end more brutal perspective on the sport.”

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.
