Police in Hull have launched an appeal after a cyclist was left with serious injuries after he spoke to a van driver who had made a close pass on him shortly beforehand.
Hull Live says that the cyclist, who has not been named, was almost knocked from his bike when the motorist overtook him on the city’s Endike Lane.
After the close pass, which happened at around 5.20pm last Tuesday 25 February, the cyclist caught up with the vehicle at a set of traffic lights.
He spoke to the driver about the close pass, at which point a passenger got out of the vehicle and assaulted him.
The driver also got out of the van and joined in the assault.
The cyclist sustained serious facial injuries and needed to go to hospital for treatment.
Humberside Police said that two men had been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The pair have been released while investigations continue, and police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 101 citing log 446 of 25 February or the charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Hull? 'Nuff said.
Apologies to thousands of Hull residents who drive safely and courteously. But simple fact remains ... in some communities, the proportion of arrogant, ignorant dickheads in motors on their roads is "above average". Hull is one such.
I believe the anti-cycling stance of much of the media plays a big role in this sort of behaviour. It might just be click-bait for them but has serious repercussions such as this incident which the media neither foresees nor cares about. Words are important. Witness what's going on across the pond after some of the nonsense spouted forth by their president. If you say it enough people believe it, and worse, feel they have the right to act on it.

It doesn't matter how hard you (think you) are, they're in a vehicle; you're not. Much as I'd love to get my point across, most crap drivers aren't interested in listening to you, and it's not worth being maimed or killed by the unhinged ones.
When they get out of their vehicle to assault you—as they did here—they are not in a vehicle.
They're either in it and can run you over, or they're out of it in which case they are a loon.
Both are situations worth avoiding.
I made the mistake of wanker signing a close pass driver who then decided to try to brake check me. I have cameras so could ahve just submitted the footage as is. However I then ensured that I didn't get into any other confrontation with him and hope my actions don't mean the Police won't prosecute his offences now the footage is submitted. (especially as the driver was then shown zooming past a watch your speed sign and is shown online as untaxes).
I wouldn't attempt to confront people in their vehicles though and surprised how much others like Cycling Gaz do as at some point, people like the above will be around.
Typical shoddy journalism, it doesn't even touch on important aspects such as the attire of the rider, or whether he was using PPE.
I have recently tried not to react to close passes..Due to the close pass by a VW van,I realized he was passing on my commute a lot and was intimidating me..problem is i forget these vehicles but they remember me!
I learnt a life lesson when I was almost forced off the road by a white van and I banged on the side of it. I was chased by the van through a pedestrianised area until I was knackered and had to stop outside a house. Two big guys got out of the van and were going to beat me up. I was saved by a big guy kissing his wife goodbye on the doorstep of the house I stopped at. Lesson being - if you can't win the fight - don't fight back. Hard to do nothing though when the other side are so far in the wrong......
Get a camera and submit every close pass by the van. This should flag up as a repeat offender - if it doesn't, contact the police and tell them about the list of case numbers all linked to 1 vehicle.
