Vans launches Transit Line for urban cycling and commuting

Packable backpack, lightweight jacket and new trainers part of the new Transit Line

Iconic skating footwear brand Vans has launched the new Transit Line, consisting of shoes, a backpack and jacket, that is aimed at city and urban cyclists.

- 6 cool clothes for city cyclists

The new Stower MTE jacket is made from a 100% nylon ripstop fabric that is designed to be weather resistant with a DWR coating. It’s a lightweight number and easily packable, folding away into its own pocket, making it ideal for chucking in the backpack in case the weather turns or the temperature drops. There’s a vented back yoke, elasticated cuffs and a reflective lining.

The Old Skool backpack is designed to be a lightweight and packable backpack with a 22-litre capacity that should be enough for carrying the essentials to and from work or university. It’s a simple bag with one large main compartment to stash everything and a front zipped pocket for smaller essentials that you need easier access to, like your house keys. It’s made from 100% polyester and features reflective detailing.

And here's the bag packed away. Neat huh?

A Vans range wouldn’t be complete without some matching footwear and as part of the new Transit Line the US company has launched four shoes in this collection, the  Sk8-Hi Reissue DX, Old Skool Reissue DX, Era 59 DX and Iso 1.5. They feature suede and leather uppers and UltraCush sock liners with padded collars, but the best bit is the signature waffle sole that provides stacks of grip on flat pedals.

You can see the full range here

He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. A reflective patch on the heel of the footwear wouldn't have been a bad addition - a nice touch on the back of my DZR shoes in low light conditions (and makes up for lack of amber pedal reflector - tut!)

thanks; couldn't be sure and I'd gone to the website to look ; no mention under the product description - "[t]he Transit Line Old Skool Reissue DX, the Vans classic skate shoe reissued with a vintage sensibility, features deluxe pig suede and leather uppers with leather sidestripes, UltraCush sockliners for long lasting comfort, padded collars for support and flexibility, and signature rubber waffle outsoles."

Took me a while to spot it but under the price it says colour black/reflective.

Aside from that i fancy a pair of the old skool ones i cycle to work in an all black pair now and a bit of side on reflective material won't go amiss.

Been feeling a little vulnerable on a black bike in the early hours of late.
