Rapha launch Ltd Edition Apple luggage… again

Rapha likes collaborations and its latest is with Apple, with the London-based clothing firm developing a range of cases and sleeves for MacBooks and iPads.

But hang on, didn’t Rapha already launch this back in June? That’s what we thought as well, so we’ve asked them. It would appear where previously you could only buy these products through the Apple store, you can now only buy them directly from Rapha, so maybe that is what has changed.

But in case you missed that launch first time around, let’s quickly run through what it’s all about. The products are all designed by Rapha and the range features bags and cases made in Portugal from “hard-wearing” Italian fabrics with cushioned padding to protect the expensive devices and durable water repellant fabrics to keep the weather out, along with AquaGuard zippers.

There’s influence from Rapha’s Brevet range in the design of the bags, with high visibility colours blue and yellow, or black if you want to be understated, with reflective details to ensure you stand out, whether on the road or in the coffee shop queue.

Naturally, these aren’t cheap cases. Prices start at £50 for the Tech Organise Kit and rise to £115 for the Convertible Tote/Backpack, and includes a £100 Mini Messenger bag and £50 sleeves for iPads and MacBooks.

Any chance of some Banana luggage? i don't tend to carry apples when cycling.

I agree about the Chrome being a better bag; my Chrome Citizen has been going strong for over 10 years and still looks as good as new. Nothing fancy, but really well thought out and practical, as well as having a lifetime guarantee.

“Limited edition” is bollocks. Unless the item is individually numbered, it’s all nonsense.

If you want that kind of sling bag, Chrome do something similar except it's a bit bigger, has full on courier-tested straps, chest strap, QR seatbelt buckles and is made out of waterproof tarpaulin with reflective panels. I have one. It cost under £80 from Ridelow in Manchester so about £20 cheaper than the Rapha mini messenger sling.

You can even fit a 11.6" Macbook Air in there though cramming in a change of clothes AND lunch is a tight fit. 

I'd take a Chrome bag over a Rapha bag any day. They know what they're doing with bags.

But you cant attach the chrome bag to a bike like you can the rapha bag - it also works as a frame bag...which is gotta be worth an extra £20? (ideally it'd be a lot less)

You could though it'd be upside down. It has loops on the bottom and each end though the straps aren't quick release buckles. Certainly not as elegant perhaps but doable if you want to carry it that way instead of on your shoulder.

They’re going downhill, maybe the sacking of many employees was a sign. I went out and bought this ‘Limited Edition’ from Apple in San Fran, now they’re available on their site, something that was said wouldn’t happen. Not good Rapha

Yeah that’ll be it. The move to sponsor a World Tour team from 2019, allowing one of the biggest online cycling retailers to sell their clothes, the further expansion of their Apple range, with more collaborations on the horizon and the rumour of yet more cycling clubs opening definitely means they’re struggling.

EF Drapac would have taken a bag of crisps and an hj for a sponsor last year so doubtful it was that difficult to become their clothing supplier.

You dont 'allow' Wiggle to sell your product, you go and ask if you can pretty please have a little slice of their massive pie.

The Apple range isn't expanding, it's being sold on their own site because, presumably, they didn't sell enought through apple direct.

And rumours are not worth a penny.

So you'd not have bought it had you known that they'd make more of them ? How does that affect you ?

When what's touted as a 'Limited Edition' becomes something that's clearly 'Unlimited', it's perhaps not entirely honest.

(Although, in law, the term 'limited edition' means nothing. It could be a limited edition of one or a vagillion)

They were bought by a wealthy American "wealth fund" headed by the heirs of Walmart.

Rapha are going nowhere, well except expanding in the USA.
