Orro announces Venturi Evo & Shimano GRX-equipped Terra C

Orro has released details of a new Venturi Evo that's cheaper than its existing Venturi STC, a Terra C gravel bike built up with Shimano's GRX 600 gravel groupset, and several more exciting updates for 2020. 

Orro is based at the foot of Ditchling Beacon in East Sussex, the brand belonging to the same people who distribute the likes of Fulcrum, Campagnolo and Northwave in the UK. It develops its own framesets, each designed for a very specific end use, and owns the moulding in the way that far bigger, more established brands do.

Here are some of the highlights for 2020, with more to follow over the coming weeks.

Venturi

The Venturi STC is the aero disc road bike in Orro's range, which we've told you about several times before. It uses spread tow carbon from Sigmatex, meaning that the carbon is arranged in flat, wide tapes that are woven together, the idea being to reduce weight and increase stiffness. 

The Venturi STC is available in two standard colours – Orro calls these its 'Tailor-made' options – black and white/red. A Shimano Ultegra (mechanical) build, for example, is £2,599.99.

You can also go for a Signature finish, which means that the frameset is hand-painted in the UK. The purple and the green bikes shown here are both Signature finishes.

Orro is now introducing the Venturi Evo, which comes out of the same mould but without the use of spread tow carbon. This means that the stiffness-to-weight ratio is a little lower than that of the Venturi STC, and so is the price.

The Venturi Evo is available in just one finish: silver/black gloss. It costs £2,099.99 built up with a Shimano 105 groupset and Vision Team 30 Disc wheels.

Terra C

The Terra C is the all-rounder in Orro's range, designed for gravel/adventure and also for everyday road use. The frame is unchanged although there are new finishes: metallic green and black/silver. 

The carbon-fibre frame features Innegra from Sigmatex in the areas most likely to be hit by stones flicked up from the road surface. Innegra is an impact resistant fibre that's designed to provide extra protection.

Orro is adding a brand new Terra C Adventure 1x (£2,099.99) to the range which will be among the very first available decked out in Shimano's recently launched GRX 600 gravel groupset. You get a single 40-tooth chainring, a wide-ranging 11-42-tooth cassette and hydraulic disc brakes.

The Terra C Adventure 1x comes with tubeless ready Fulcrum Racing R700 wheels and 42mm Hutchinson Overide tyres. Orro usually specs Continentals but the development team rode the Overides and decided these were the best option for the job. The bike also features FSA's Adventure handlebar where the drops flare outwards by 12°. 

You get mudguard and rack mounts here so it would be easy to use the Terra C Adventure 1x for commuting too. We're getting this model in for review very soon.

The Terra C comes in several other builds with prices starting at £1,799.99.

This one has a Shimano Ultegra groupset (including hydraulic disc brakes) and Fulcrum Racing 700 wheels, and is priced £2,499.99.

Terra Gravel

The Terra Gravel bikes remain the same as previously, each model built around a triple-butted 6061 aluminium frame with 12mm thru axles front and rear and 35mm of tyre clearance, or 32mm if you fit mudguards using the available eyelets. 

The welding is smooth throughout, while the fork that slots in up front is full carbon.

The version with a Shimano 105 groupset, TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes and Fulcrum Racing Sport DB wheels is £1,249.99.

Upgrading to Shimano 105 hydraulic disc brakes costs and extra £250. 

Whichever build you go for, you can have the frame in either a raw/silver finish or in copper (orange). 

The only real oddity in the spec is the choice of Vittoria Zaffiro tyres in a non-gravel-friendly 28mm width. You'll want something wider if you fancy heading off the tarmac.

Signature Gold STC Disc limited edition

The Gold STC, which is a disc brake-only gran fondo bike, is now available in this limited edition purple and gold finish. Orro is only making 25 of these so you'll need to be quick if you want one. 

Like the Venturi (above), the Gold STC uses spread tow carbon (hence the 'STC' in the name) from UK-based carbon composite specialist Sigmatex. The spread tow fabric is woven from thin tapes that result in a lightweight and stiff finished product. 

This limited edition model comes with Fulcrum Wind 40 DB wheels and a choice of groupsets. The Ultegra Di2 version is £4,599.99. Alternatively, you can buy the frameset (including headset, seat clamp and skewers) for £1,999.99.

Pyro Evo

The Pyro is the other gran fondo bike in Orro's range, priced more accessibly than the Gold STC, and it has recently been updated to become the Pyro Evo.

It now uses 12mm thru axles front and rear and is 100g lighter than before. The fork is full carbon.

The Pyro Evo is available in two different builds, the cheaper one being £1,499.99 and coming in a black/red finish.

This model has a mostly Shimano 105 groupset with an FSA Omega chainset and TRP Spyre cable-operated disc brakes. The wheels are Fulcrum Racing 700s, which are exactly the same as Fulcrum Racing 7s (the difference is simply that the 700s come as original equipment on bikes whereas the 7s are available after market).

The other Pyro Evo is full Shimano 105, including hydraulic disc brakes. You also get a Deda Zero1 handlebar and stem. This model, in an ice blue finish, is priced £1,899.99.

Like other Orros, these bikes come with a removable switch lever for tightening and removing the wheels. You can either leave it attached to one of the axles (it won't fall out) or remove it for storage.
