How far do you commute to work (by bike)?

OK, you have to do this regularly, it doesn't count if you have cycled to work once or cycled past your work on a weekend jaunt plus you have to cycle back the same day to where you started from. Also it has to be current, not 'back in the day'. It will be interesting to see if some of us cover the same route but have never met.

If you're new please join in and if you have questions pop them below and the forum regulars will answer as best we can.

ive never measured my commute, but its from south Bristol to the beginings of north Bristol, so about 1.5 to 2 miles. 5 days a week, there and back. as for seeing people on my commute, its all taxi drivers (and later night/early morning clubbers on a sat morning) as im a postie, do get to ride a post bike up a hill as well, so as to get to first delivery point. so i reckon 20 miles in total all week.

Richmond park is good for me (the train by my house goes there).

sounds like a breakfast picnic in richmond park might be fairly well attended, and it would give TR a decent workout 1

Can you put where you are travelling to and from please. Also, does anybody cycle in with another person or do you soldier on alone? I always sweated it out on a power commute, like the yorkshire pk ripper, but then again I never left myself enough time for a leisurely pedal. Anybody fancy a bike breakfast in London this week, after all it is bike week? I'll start another thread.

10 miles each way for me most days. I've gone back to the road recently as the cycle path (an old rail line) shakes my bones too much and dont get me started on the broken glass, dog walkers, hoodies....
despite the road adding another mile to the journey its still quicker as the surface allows me to ride a gear higher.

5 miles each way. Every day. Quicker than any other form of transport (car included).

Boring and has no discernible fitness benefit. I should head off in the opposite direction more often....

Yeah i find cycling for me is much faster than the bus or car and it's healthy. It can get boring doing a shorter route every day, so i change my route, slightly, every month or so just to shake it up a bit.

About 11 miles each way 3- 4 times a week. Mostly fairly flat (up and down a bit of the A6) as I live out on the edge of the Lancashire Fylde and work in Preston. Not a bad ride but often a killer wind usually coming off the Irish Sea.

My colleague cycles a similar distance in from Blackburn. His route is almost the opposite direction to mine (compass wise) so usually when I get in to work knackered with a head wind all the way, he arrives like a rocket! I then pray that the wind doesn't change direction during the day.

Damn we've run out, but we will be taking orders soon for another batch at a new recession-busting price!

My commute pretty much the same as Dave 'cept he lives a bit higher up the hill. I try to go home at lunchtime just to up the mileage and stop me getting fat

y'all should say hello to one another when you're riding through richmond park 1

12 miles each way, five days a week, all year.

So far in 2009 I've used my car to commute twice. I had pulled a muscle in my calf, and wanted it to recover by the weekend when I had a ride planned!

Mon & Fri 18.5 miles each way

Tues, Thurs workbound = 13.75 miles, home bound = 18.5 miles

Wed = 8.5 miles each way (plus MTB night ride = 17 miles)

All commuting done on a SS Tricross running 45/16 gearing.

13 miles each way. Quicker than by public transport + view lovely sights thru Richmond Park. Keeps me fit and, hopefully, trim too!

8 miles in, 7 miles home, although there are various routes to combat boredom, my Tuesday evening route home is 14 miles and takes in Fulham, Richmomd Park and Twickenham...

Starts in Isleworth and ends in White City...

10 miles each way for me, doing it 4-5 times a week. Quicker over exactly the same route than on a Vespa.

Mine's about 7 on the way to work and 5.5 on the way back..
Frequency? That depends on what's happening in the office, I try for three times in a week.

I'm doing 13 miles each way/day. Great route through richmond park, then hustling the traffic around the Kings rd, Buck palace and traffalgar sq.

Just over 2 miles each way, all downhill on the way in and all uphill on the way back

that's not very far, is it? I did do it on an Africabike for a while though, which is the equivalent of multiplying the distance by about five 1

still, with the first reply, i'm in the lead for now... 4 4

11 miles each way, usually 2 or 3 times a week and take the car the other days - I can actually cycle home along NCN55 quicker than driving on the main road with all the congestion.

9 - 10 miles each way, from Swiss Cottage to Canary Wharf. I do it once or twice a week - on 2 other days I get the tube to Waterloo and run from there.
