road.cc road rage pollroad.cc road rage poll in the papers
Our story about road.cc's recent poll in which over 90 per cent of users said they had been the victim of some sort of abuse when riding their bikes ranging from occasional verbals from motorists right through to outright physical attack has been picked up by two national newspapers today.
The Mirror and the Sun both run short pieces on the poll which highlights the sort of treatment many cyclists regularly have to put up with from other road users.
While the stories may be buried towards the back of each paper they do make it in – which is progress. It's on the Mirror website too.
road.cc's founder and first editor, nowadays to be found riding a spreadsheet. Tony's journey in cycling media started in 1997 as production editor and then deputy editor of Total Bike, acting editor of Total Mountain Bike and then seven years as editor of Cycling Plus. He launched his first cycling website - the Cycling Plus Forum at the turn of the century. In 2006 he left C+ to head up the launch team for Bike Radar which he edited until 2008, when he co-launched the multi-award winning road.cc - finally handing on the reins in 2021 to Jack Sexty. His favourite ride is his ‘commute’ - which he does most days inc weekends and he’s been cycle-commuting since 1994. His favourite bikes are titanium and have disc brakes, though he'd like to own a carbon bike one day.

I think its great to highlight the problem. Last year I had numerous incidents of verbal abuse, was spat at bby a car passenger and had a drink thrown at me from a car.
None of these were in anyway incited or even relating to rights of wayc it was simply idiots having their 'fun' as they drove past/towards me.
I take Alankk's point that its a small representation but I have no doubt that its a fair indication of the larger picture. I'm pleased its been picked up by the popular press and hopefully will help to change some attitudes.
We never said that it was a scientific survey, but it is real people's experiences
Trust the Sun and Mirror to use a survey of 250 ppl as evidence.
Thats positive tony, its good that stories like this are being picked up and that road.cc is being referred to.
